50 Things to remember in 2009.

Posted by: laurane   in Holidays, Things that happen, Thoughts

1) Stayed up all night and took the first MRT on the 1st of Jan 2009 to get home from the New Year celebrations.

2) Worked in a laboratory with bacteria and DNA, visited a chicken abattoir, and hand-picked chicken poo… and got paid for it.

3) Spent Chinese New Year with my best friend’s boyfriend and his friends. Also won $5 from playing poker with them (pretty good for someone who’s never played poker before) haha!

4) Survived the hottest day in Adelaide- 45.7C, and two 40+ heatwaves.

5) Went crabbing. Caught nothing but one baby crab.

6) Found a place in a new group of friends from work.

7) Officially became the president of the Malaysian Students Association for the year, and successfully ran the club and handed over a still-functional club to the next successor. Yay!

8 ) Had a crazy crush. Became friends with his best friend…

9) Got a new piercing.

10) Turned 21. With lots of love :)

11) Finished my 200 hours of Pharmacy work-experience.

12) Learnt how to dance (ballroom) and got medals to prove it.

13) Made a wrong friend that turned out to be the biggest problem of the year, and (thankfully) resolved it.

14) Visited a doctor in Adelaide for the first time.

15) Went to Sydney, walked for an hour in new high heeled boots, and still managed to dance and walk back to the hotel.

16) Visited Dom and Mjelva (when in Sydney). Had coffee at the harbour and went to the opera house at 2am.

17) Ate a teaspoon of chopped raw garlic.

18) Watched Phantom of the Opera.

19) Walked along the Torrens River with pretty lanterns to celebrate the Moon Lantern Festival (or the Mooncake festival)

20) Went to the Flinders Ranges, and saw the most beautiful night sky. Also saw lots of road-killed kangaroos…

21) Carried a Koala!

22) Cycled to the south parks of Adelaide with a friend I hardly knew.

23) Went on a Buddhist camp, learnt a lot. Went vegetarian for a few days, ate blindfolded, learnt meditation. Was probably one of the best getaways I’ve been on.

24) Campaigned and ran for student representative, got elected, and then resigned.

25) Played lots of Bejeweled.

26) Cried in uni.

27) Drank lots of coffee. (I think caffeine is starting to have less effect on me…)

28) Made lots of new friends. From Adelaide uni, from Work, and from Pharmacy too. I don’t know why it took me so long to get to know some of them…

29) Celebrated Deepavali with yummy muruku!

30) Attended a gazillion surprise birthday parties… ok not a gazillion. but quite a lot. Surprise parties seem to be the ‘in’ thing for the year.

31) Finished a can of Mother and discovered the miracles of energy drinks.

32) Bought an epilator.

33) Went to the swimming pool, and played badminton in Adelaide for the first time.

34) Got racially abused at work by stupid customers.

35) Came home from uni one morning when the sun had started to rise…

36) Started work before the sun started to rise, saw the city wake up.

37) Finished an exam at 10:30pm.

38) Finally tried North Adelaide’s famous AB.

39) Sat through the longest flight in my life (to get to europe)

40) Went to Europe!

41) Watched a live Opera at the Vienna State Opera

42) Lost quite a bit of weight in the beginning, then gained it all back again. ><

43) Went to a fancy hair saloon, got a drink, a hairwash, and cut… for $10.

44) Hiked (down and) up Mt. Lofty.

45) Passed AP 300 and AP301 :)

46) Got in a car accident (stupid motorcycle…)

47) Visited Conie in KB, drove to Terengganu! Just across the border… :)

48) Probably broke my record for number of towns/cities I stepped foot in, in one month. December: Adelaide, Singapore, Prague, Ceske Budejovice, Vienna, Budapest, Penang, Kota Bharu (If you want to include stop overs like meeting people for lunch and dinner or just chilling- Terengganu, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur (or PJ…?) lol…

49) Attended a wedding. My family reunion… since I wont be back for CNY again… :(

50) Made this list. :)

ONE hour left to 2009. Hope you had a wonderful year and I wish you an enjoyable and safe 2010.
