last 2 days in Singapore…

   Posted by: laurane

…and what am I doing?

Sitting on my ass playing bejeweled on facebook.

My dad’s not feeling well so he’s sleeping in the living room. Mum’s having a nap too. So I can’t go on the piano, like what I usually do every single afternoon anyway.

I would like to go for a swim but I’m still fluey/coughing, so I don’t think people would appreciate me contaminating the pool.

Can’t watch tv or play wii, cuz again, dad’s in the living room. So what can I do???

I should go out. Doesn’t matter that the town is friggin 40 mins away (waiting for bus and all that taken into account…) I should probably make good use of my last day in Singapore. Doubt I’ll be doing much tomorrow since we’re leaving to KL on sunday morning (or even tmrw evening??) and I won’t be seeing singapore for another year. :(

That being said though, I finally went to a club last night. Jennie brought me to The Butter Factory on Wednesday Night with a couple of her friends. Ladies night is pretty awesome in Singapore. Free entry, and free flow of drinks, and RnB music the whole night (except for a random couple of rock songs in the mix a little later at night, I don’t know why). So I only spent on taxi, and a locker for my bag since I was staying over at Jen’s. Total cost= $4. :)

Initially I was rather reluctant to go. On the way down to the city (the second last stop of the red line, takes 30 mins on the MRT itself!) I was actually falling asleep. But when we got there, and the atmosphere heated up a bit, and the music got really good, I was back to my clubbing mood and having lotsa fun! :) haha. So much for growing old and giving up the clubbing scene. I think vi would really like this place. There’s poles on the stage and all ;)

So. I think it’ll take a little while longer before i really stop going to clubs. :P

OK so mum’s up from her nap and apparently i’ve got some things to do before I can go out, so I’m gonna stop here now…

I’ll try to post pictures sometime later when I’m back in Adl I guess. I’m on my mum’s computer now. No pictures here… so sorry for the long boring entries the past couple of months.

Ciao!

Back to Clarke Quay

   Posted by: laurane

After a year of Singapore nightlife drought, I finally stepped foot into Clarke Quay again tonight.

Surprisingly though, no high heels, no ID checks and no dancing.

But yes, alcohol was involved. And I had a good time. :)

I had dinner with JW at the really yummy Ramen place at Liang Court, then we headed over to Cafe Iguana to have their ‘Macho Margarita’ which was friggin MASSIVE. I swear I did not think it was going to be that big. But it was good. And somehow managed to finish it between the two of us (i think I had more than half of it!) Vi and Ed came and joined us at around 10ish. We had to leave around 11ish because we all had to take the MRT back and my last train is about 11:40 at city hall. (Actually, I don’t really know exactly what time the last train is for a saturday night, but the last time i checked it was 11:40pm from City Hall… Oh well. I managed to get home. Although my time with the girls and Edmund was cut short :( )

I was singing to myself ‘Love like this’ on the mrt back but then I don’t really know how to sing it and i wanted to try and stop my obsession, So i listened to Taylor Swift instead. Didn’t quite work though. As soon as I turned off Taylor, another SS501 song started playing in my head.

I’m still looking forward to Taylor Swift’s concert on the 12th of February though. *yay*! :D

So yea… I think I’m growing out of the whole clubbing thing. I mean, I love dancing in clubs still, but I don’t miss it as much as I used to I guess… It’s a bit like, I don’t care if I go or don’t go. If I go then it’s all good and I have fun, but if I don’t have the chance to go, I’m not that bummed about it.

I’d rather spend my day out shopping. Haha! :) I went to Bugis with mum today. Bought myself a really pretty blouse (i think its pretty!) on super discount which always makes me happy. Bought a new bag yesterday too at half price to replace my white one which is ripping on the inside :(

But yah. Discounts and sales and getting things half the original price makes me happy.  :)

Oh, and shoe shopping. Shoe shopping makes me happy too. Not that I buy lots of shoes, but I just like going around looking for something nice~

two weeks into 2010

   Posted by: laurane

Hi all I’m back in singapore

The cough I developed when I went to Europe seems to have come back to haunt me and my family. So now every night I’m coughing like a smoker and I wake up with a painfully sore throat which lasts through the day and as soon as it doesn’t feel too bad anymore (it usually gets better after eating… o.O) i start coughing again and the vicious cycle continues. I’ve been sneezing and being kinda flu-ey the past couple of days too. But no signs of that today as of yet… so hopefully that’s gone.

This is so frustrating. I hate feeling tired all the time.

Maybe I’m tired because I haven’t been doing anything…? You know how people say you feel a lot more energetic after doing some exercise and being active…

But if you’re not feeling well the best remedy is rest, rest, and more rest. Right??

So what should I do??

Complaining aside…

For about 3-4 days I was stuck watching the Korean drama Boys Over Flowers. If you’re a girl, and you have some free time (around 25 hours) I suggest you watch it. All episodes can be found online. If you need a link, ask me ;) But that show would put anyone in gaga land… So be careful. haha.

I also met Ritz again, this time for drinks at New Asia Bar. It’s located on the 70th floor of the um… raffles hotel building or something. The view was amazing. We also saw a really low cloud outside the window. That was a little strange. But I really like that place. So thanks Ritz for bringing me there!

Came the weekend… we drove up to Kuantan for my Grandfather’s 81st birthday celebration :) or was it the 82nd… I’m not too sure :S the reason for the strange age for celebration is that when he turned 80 it was just a little while after my grandmother passed away, so we didn’t want to have a celebration then. So my uncles organised a dinner this year. 5 tables, a little private dining area in some restaurant in Kuantan. Good food, and good company i guess. I finally get to meet my cousins. I couldn’t really recognise one of them because well… they’re at that age where they suddenly Grow and you come back a couple of years later and they’re not the same people anymore… So i thought he was his older brother when he’s not. ><

It was nice for me cuz I won’t be there for Chinese New Year again this year. :( So yah. Mini reunion. Just like the wedding dinner we had in Penang.

I got to walk down the beach and check out the new E.C. Mall in Kuantan (well, not so new anymore its about 2 years old but i haven’t seen it) and it was a nice big place with another cinema and all…  Then I spent sunday night with my primary school bestie and we had so much to talk about there wasn’t enough time because the kopitiam closed and we couldn’t stay out so late anyway…

And by monday night we’re back in Singapore.

And I’m like a slug. Sleeping in the car almost the whole way back (or trying to sleep… cars arent very comfortable~) and sleeping at home and staying home being all sluggish…

not sure how much sense im making now…. heheh.

Anyway… time to get off the computer. I’ve been youtube-ing quite a lot… guess since in Adelaide I’m restricted with the amount of internet usage I have~

time to play some tunes on the piano. Or should i say, make some noise? :P

Merry Christmas!

   Posted by: laurane

OK so it’s kinda boxing day today… not quite christmas day itself, but there’s 12 days of christmas… right? o.O

I’m currently back in Singapore after a long week in Penang and KB.

It was an eight hour bus ride from PP to KB but was worth it.

KB was awesome. Short trip but C and her family are pros at having 1 day visitors. :) Tried everything there was to be tried (in terms of the local food) and even drove out to see the beaches thanks to C’s brother. They not only successfully fattened me up, they also paid for a bunch of stuff for me to buy back for my family… paiseh nye…

thanks Wee family very much!! I really enjoyed my stay there. Especially with the company of your two little fluff balls. :D

So after all that driving, we’re now back in Singapore.

My family was supposed to be back 4 days ago but due to a little accident, (motorcyclist decided to ride his bike directly into the side of our car. You’d think a Bright YELLOW Honda Jazz driving at 20km/hr would be visible enough in the daylight of Penang, but No… he decided it looked like a good target to ram into…) We had to fix our car, hence had to stay back for a few more days.

Don’t worry we’re all alive and safe and back home.

Hope you all had a good christmas and are enjoying the end of year break.

Wherever you are, Stay safe and watch for stypid motorcyclists!

xoxo

updates from Penang

   Posted by: laurane

I love weddings!!

Was at a wedding dinner last night. 65 tables at the gurney hotel. Today was the actual wedding ceremony. the whole- groom goes to the bride’s house, has to go through several roadblocks and give out lots of ang pows before getting to the bride, then the tea giving ceremony and all that…

A bit ‘terbalik’ really… the dinner should come AFTER the wedding, but i guess they didnt hav emuch choice cuz of timing and bookings and all that.

Updates on the food i’ve had…
too much to name all. hahaha!! but i’ve had my penang laksa, ice kacang, char kuay teow etc etc…

ok lah. im gona go now and stop being so antisocial. :)

Greetings from Pulau Pinang

   Posted by: laurane

HI dear readers, I’m now in Penang.

Had hokkien mee for breakfast/lunch this afternoon. :)

still looking forward to the char kuay teow and chendol and penang laksa… I just hope I’ve got enough time. haha!

Anyway, planning my trip to KB turns out to be a bigger night mare than I ever expected. Do I travel by Bus? by train? Do i stop by Kuantan? Do i go straight to Singapore?how long should I stay at any of these places?

So silly…

I wish I could just do what I want (if i could plan it all by myself, I would stop by kuantan for a couple of days before heading home. KB and Spore is a long bus/train ride away!!)

Anyway. Write more when I’ve eaten more and put on more weight.

Oh, I’ve got new glasses. They’re plastic, dark brown and electric green. I almost went for something more shocking in colour. I tried on these really nice green/aqua blue ones but I thought of placements next year… I wouldn’t want to be wearing shocking glasses to do my placements next year… would i? =S

So my glasses look like my glasses… You’ll see them soon enough. :)

happy holidays.

To penang!

   Posted by: laurane

Leaving to penang tomorrow morning.

Then to KB then back to Singapore.

I could have gone to Genting but then my sis said something about having to pretend to be an intern or something like that because she’s there on a work trip and me ‘following’ would make the other people there not too happy… So i said I won’t go because knowing me I’ll be a horrible ‘pretender’.

i had also planned to drop by Kuantan after KB but then I think my dad wants me home for christmas I’m not too sure why (because we don’t even celebrate it…) so plans to go to Kuantan is scrapped.

Anyway. Just thought I should keep you guys updated.

Oh and I bought a new pair of shoes again today. I wanted to buy an ‘expensive’ pair of shoes just because i keep on getting cheap shoes, but then i looked around so much and i couldn’t find something i like. then i found this pair i really like!! and it was dead cheap. =.=” OK i shouldn’t be complaining…

Thanks to cheryl for welcoming me to Penang. :)

Highlights from the tour

   Posted by: laurane

Tour my ass. You can’t really call our trip a tour. That so-called tour guide was lousy as.

Anyway, changing the title now to - Summary of the holiday.

Travelled from Singapore to Prague, with a 3 hour transfer in Amsterdam (which I always thought was in Germany until I actually landed there and found out it’s not. A little embarrassing.)

Arrived in Prague and missed our city tour (thanks to our ‘tour guide’) so we ended up just roaming the city, shopping at the christmas market and going to Bata. Which supposedly originated from Czech Republic. Not Malaysia or Indonesia (so ends the long debate regarding its origins…)

Went on the city tour of Prague the next day and wasted more time by not knowing what we’re doing and then before we knew it, it was night. We watched a black light performance that night. Black light theatre is supposed to be a Prague thing. I thought it was very creative. :)

Boarded a Train to Ceske Budejovice the next day. After dropping off our luggage, went on the train again to Cesky Krumlov to visit the Castle and the little town. Really nice place. Returned to the city at night and had the worst dinner ever… arranged by our wonderful tour guide again.

Next morning boarded the train Again, and headed to Vienna, Austria. Stayed Schloss Wilhenminenberg (which i am finally able to pronounce) which is an old palace. Beautiful place on a hill, but lousy weather means a lousy view… :( We watched the Opera at the state opera house which was really good. Loved it. :) Then we had coffee at Mozart Cafe. Vienna hsa the largest range of coffees… and all so good! (All of this though, wasn’t actually on the tour itenary)

Next day, moved to a city hotel and went on a city tour of Vienna where they explained the monuments etc etc. and had a tour of the palace. Had food from the christmas market for dinner, and then spent the night roaming the city, found a really big Swarovsky crystal outlet and went shopping for a while. Then ended the day with more coffee! this time at Cafe Central, which was a beaautiful place and supposed to be where lots of famous people went for coffee over the years~ (Google it. I was told something different to what it really was so I’m not so sure what the real story is hence i wont blog it.)

Boarded the train again the next morning to Budapest, Hungary. Budapest is so… grey. Everything seems to be covered in a layer of soot or something. Lots of buldings aren’t really That old, but it was designed to look really old. A little bit of a strange city in that way :)

Went on the city tour again~ Then spent the night roaming around by ourselves again… Had one of the best meals throughout the trip (and it was Not organised by the tour again~) We actually walked around until we almost gave up, so we went into a hotel to ask for advice on where we should have dinner and they directed us to a restaurant called Cat in a Bag (of course, it had a really long hungarian name which I don’t know…) And they really had Good food.

Final day, we went to the parliament house for a tour, and the city Market where we finalyl managed to pick up Some sort of souvenir~

In the afternoon, we were back at the hotel to check out, head to the airport, flew to Amsterdam, and transferred again. And now I’m back in Singapore.

Unfortunately, It was cold and rainy the entire trip. When it was nice and sunny, we were travelling on the train. Its supposed to snow THIS week, so we kinda missed the snow…

So that’s the summary of our interesting, but rather disappointing holiday.

Sorry for the lack of pictures or descriptions but I’m not really a writer and this is really just for my reference.

If pictures weren’t so difficult to upload onto my blog, i would definitely include some… but not today. Plus, the pics are actually in my mum’s camera which makes it more difficult to transfer pictures~

Over and out!
